How to publish an AI-made game on Steam

Steam accepts games made with AI. You disclose the AI-generated content in Steamworks' Content Survey, confirm you have the rights to everything in the game, and pay the $100 Steam Direct fee. GDevelop, Summer Engine, Rosebud AI can publish to Steam directly; other AI game makers get there through a Windows build or exported source code.

1. Make sure your tool can produce a Steam build

Steam needs a downloadable build, usually Windows. Browser-only game makers can't ship to Steam unless they export a desktop build or the project's source code, which you then package in an engine. Tools we've confirmed list Steam publishing: GDevelop, Summer Engine, Rosebud AI. Tools with Windows or source-code export: Makko AI, SEELE AI, Bitmagic, Replit, Ropilot.

2. Check commercial rights on your plan

Many AI tools grant commercial rights only on paid plans. Check the "Commercial use" row on each tool page for every tool that made an asset in your game, and keep a list of which tool made what. See who owns AI game assets.

3. Fill in the AI disclosure

Valve's January 2024 rules split AI use into two kinds:

Much of the disclosure appears on your store page. In January 2026 Valve's survey was reported to say that efficiency tools that don't ship in the game, such as coding assistants, are not the focus of the section; content players see or hear is.

4. Submit through Steamworks

  1. Create a Steamworks partner account and pay the $100 Steam Direct fee for the game.
  2. Build the store page: capsule art, screenshots, trailer, description and the AI disclosure.
  3. Upload your build with SteamPipe and request review of the store page and build.
  4. Wait the required period between paying the fee and launching, then release.

5. Before launch

Play the whole game on a clean Windows machine, make sure no generated asset copies a known character or brand, and keep your prompt and tool records in case Valve asks.
